Who are we?

Our Mission

Empower our global community to make informed decisions and understand what each of us can do to preserve and protect our precious resources and our wonderful home we call Earth.

About us

My wife and I (Susan and Kevin) have recently retired and have been married for 34 wonderful years! We love our planet and have a passion for doing what we can to leave it better than we found it. We have two grown children that share our values but will also be quick to tease me every time I get overly excited about a beautiful tree discovered on one of our trips. No, I’m not an educated arborist but I have great respect and admiration for all things nature from ants and worms to elephants, corals reefs, and in case I didn’t mention it – trees!

As we embrace retirement and embark on our nature tour, we plan to sprinkle in some “good stewardship” activities allowing us to give back to our wonderful planet and share our experiences with you. Check out our Volunteer Opportunities section for updates and ideas you may want to explore. Meanwhile, we will be posting articles about what we can all do through environmental awareness and enlightened consumerism. We will also be welcoming feedback, including new ideas to explore. We won’t be getting into politics, but we will be posting information on how to “vote” every time you shop as well as other things we can do to make a difference. Believe us when we say we don’t always make the best choices, but we strive to do what we can when we can.

One of our favorite short stories is an adaptation from The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley:

An old man had a habit of early morning walks on the beach. One day, after a storm, he saw a human figure in the distance moving like a dancer. As he came closer he saw that it was a young woman and she was not dancing but was reaching down to the sand, picking up a starfish and very gently throwing them into the ocean.

“Young lady”, he asked, “Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

“The sun is up, and the tide is going out, and if I do not throw them in they will die.”

“But young lady, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You cannot possibly make a difference.”

The young woman listened politely, paused and then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves, saying: “It made a difference for that one.”

The old man looked at the young woman inquisitively and thought about what she had done. Inspired, he joined her in throwing starfish back into the sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved!
